Conventional Leathers Are Toxic

Most conventional leathers are tanned using gnarly cocktails of heavy metals, solvents, chemicals, and additives - most of which are toxic for the earth and our bodies.

Industrial leather production is one of the most polluting industries in the world, affecting water, soil, air, and humans all over the planet. The industry relies on factory farming, animal enslavement and abuse, including horrific ways of killing the animals.

Leather, like all textiles, leaches into our skins and our environments. When we wear heavy metal and chemical infused leather, our bodies absorb those toxins (including endocrine disrupting chemicals), which can create all sorts of health problems.

Why Our Leathers Are Different

Our tanning process is very different. We are dedicated to slow, intentional hand craft. We use only food grade, organic ingredients, and all of our grey water goes directly onto the plants around our homestead. Instead of using only store-bought tree bark, we also harvest bark from trees we fell by hand. Each leather piece is completely one of a kind - I create my own patterns that are often only used once. Each item is a living prayer.
